The Automatist Years: 1941

Organised by Father Couturier, (Le Gris, p. 118), the Première exposition des Indépendants is held at the Galerie Municipale at the Palais Montcalm, in Quebec City (Écrits I, p. 30). The exhibition will be held again in Montreal in May at the auditorium of the Henry Morgan store under the title Peinture modern (Gagnon, 1978, p. 472; 1988, p. 472). Borduas exhibits:

Fall

Meets Pierre Gauvreau who exhibits works he completed while on vacation; the exhibition takes place at the Salle du Gesù. Gauvreau presents many of his friends to Borduas: Bruno Cormier, Fernand Leduc, Françoise Sullivan, and the sisters Jeanne, Louise and Thérèse Renaud (Écrits I, p. 30).

October 18

Gives drawing classes for children on Saturday afternoons at 3940 Mentana Street in Montreal, (Écrits I, p. 30).

November 12

Invited to judge the works of students at the Palestre nationale located on Cherrier Street in Montreal (Écrits I, p. 30).
